OpenDocument is a format of open file designed mainly for the office applications such as text processing, the spreadsheves or the presentations. It's about a format of open file because its mode of representation was made public and that no law is opposed to its free use.

OpenDocument format was recognized like open standard by ISO and OASIS, two organizations of standardizations. The standardization of the format and these many advantages involved an increase in its use within the companies and administrations. However, even if the developers endeavor to improve this format with each new version, it continuous to have some limits, such as the lack of numerical signature. From a more general point of view, Microsoft Office remains the most used software in the world.

However the stakes of interworking and standardization make softwares using the OpenDocument format a serious alternative.
