Summary

Intelligent agents are programs that replace humans to carry out complex tasks. Nowadays, no truly intelligent agent, i.e. capable of performing the same task as a human being, has been developed. However, there are agents with more or less complex and sophisticated intelligence which allow humans to delegate some of their tasks.

An intelligent agent has the following characteristics: autonomy, communication, reasoning and mobility. These characteristics allow it to process a task for a user, either on the Internet, on an intranet or on a computer.

The development of intelligent agents may encounter several problems related to the characteristics listed above; security, but also ethics, since the development of an entity with intelligence raises ethical questions.
